Sir Gavin Williamson requested a visit to Ingestre Park Golf Club near Great Haywood, to take a tour and see for himself the recently reconfigured golf course.
Sir Gavin was joined by Geoff Matthews, Honorary Secretary, and Mel Jones, Club Captain, to discuss the club’s reconfiguration. In particular, they spoke about how HS2 plans had put the club at risk. If the plans had gone ahead, 12 holes would have been lost. It was only due to the club and HS2 coming together that a plan to secure the club’s future was achieved.
After 8 years of planning, the club has built 12 new holes and remodelled the 6 holes that were retained to bring them up to modern-day standards. The new course is set to launch on Saturday 4th May, followed by a number of competitions and events for members and the community to get involved in.
Sir Gavin said: “It was wonderful to see the new course which I know has taken a great many years of blood, sweat, and tears to bring to fruition.”
