Sir Gavin Williamson presented awards to recognise the work undertaken by individuals and organisations in Essington at the annual Community Service celebrations.
The event was hosted by Rev Helen Duckett at St John’s Church, with special posthumous awards presented to Cllrs Steve Porter and Adrian Nicklin who sadly passed away recently.
Elsewhere, Friends of Essington and Hilton Main Construction Ltd were recognised for their many years of community support to Essington. Stuart Ayers was presented with an award for his outstanding leadership at St John’s Primary Academy, whilst residents including Malcolm Jordan, Louise Tipler, Ann Clay, Clem Whittle, Graham Young, Dennis and Gill Walley, John Peterken, James Eccleston-Morris, and John Ellesmore were all celebrated for their unwavering dedication to improve the area they live in.
Sir Gavin said: “It was wonderful to present so many deserving organisations and individuals with awards to recognise their outstanding contributions to Essington.
“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who give up their free time to volunteer and improve the area they live and work in.
“Whether it is litter-picking, hosting community events, or supporting those who are elderly and vulnerable, there are so many who dedicate their lives to helping others.
“The Community Service awards are a fantastic way to bring the community together. The Parish Council are a credit to Essington and I look forward to continue to support their work.
“I would also like to pay tribute to Cllrs Steve Porter and Adrian Nicklin who are sadly no longer with us. I had the great pleasure of working with both over the years and they will never be forgotten.”
