Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Perton Library to find out the challenges they have been facing throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
Gavin met with Library Line Manager, Allan Medway and Operations Manager, Yvonne to find out how they are coping with social distancing and their increased online presence. Perton Library has seen online activity massively increase with older generations who have struggled to return to the library.
Strict measures are in place to ensure the safety of all staff and the public with various hand sanitising stations, a one way system to access computers and a simple book return and collection system.
Book return charges have been waivered until the end of September for those that cannot get the library and seating areas have currently been removed to reduce the chances of infection.
Speaking about the visit, Gavin said: “It was lovely to go and see the great measures that the library has put in place to try and welcome back as many regular users as possible. The team have taken great strides to make it as safe as possible and I hope that the library continues to provide a great local service for the residents”.
