Sir Gavin Williamson continues to fight against proposals that will see a solar farm built on a 153-acre site just outside Penkridge.
Concerns have been raised by Sir Gavin, local councillors, and local residents regarding the proposals as it could lead to loss of agricultural land, danger to road users, and devaluation of house prices.
Residents have already highlighted that their community is surrounded by renewable energy including the pending West Midlands Interchange with 150 acres of solar farms and battery storage, as well as several windturbines and digesters.
Sir Gavin said: "I and others recognise the need to invest in renewable energy which is important for the future of the environment.
“However, this application is completely unsuitable and will degrade perfectly good agricultural land that may impact food security. The land in question is versatile grade 2 and 3a – which is 39% in this application, the equivalent of 44 football pitches.
“It is time for the Labour Government to listen to local residents, and not power ahead with plans that favour developers over communities.”
