Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire celebrated National Citizenship Day with St. Dominic’s High School, in Brewood, on Monday 16th September.
During his visit, Gavin spoke to students about his role as an MP and the important role that elections play in the democratic system.
In honour of the occasion, the school held a mock election where students were able to create their own political parties and their own sets of policies.
The vote for the favourite party was then followed by a ‘real life’ vote for the school council elections.
Speaking of his visit, Gavin said: “It is really important that young people are encouraged to develop an interest in political process and to gain an understanding of the impact that it can have on people’s lives.
“The staff at St. Dominic’s High School did a wonderful job putting together a day that was both informative and fun for their pupils. I greatly enjoyed getting to meet the students that were taking part and believe that several of them would make extremely able politicians one day, should they ever be interested in entering into Parliament.”
