Sir Gavin Williamson visited Milford Cricket Club to congratulate the local team on their sporting success last summer.
Sir Gavin joined Councillors Ann and Peter Edgeller to meet the Chairman of the club, Dave Smith. Sir Gavin applauded the team’s efforts last season, when they became the first from Staffordshire to win the National Village Cup. The team were crowned champions after a tense final at Lord’s, which was attended by 600 Milford Hall supporters.
The club was founded over a hundred years ago and fields in one of the oldest cricket leagues in existence. They’re also known for being active in the local community, coaching young and adult cricketers. For the 2024 season, they’re also introducing two women's league teams.
Sir Gavin said: “It was fantastic to visit the Milford Hall team after their big success at Lord’s last summer, which was a proud moment for Staffordshire. It’s wonderful to see that the club has a strong network of support. Milford Hall has a great sporting calendar for the local community to rally around and I’m excited for the upcoming season.”
