Sir Gavin Williamson is supporting Landywood Voluntary Help Centre after their minibus was cruelly stolen in January.
Sir Gavin met with the charity’s treasurer, Vivien Evans, who asked him for help in acquiring a new vehicle to replace the previous minibus, which transported vulnerable members of the community to hospital appointments and social visits. The minibus was also used to support a programme of fun and interesting social outings, such as planned visits to museums, shopping centres, lunches and even an ice cream farm. The charity is a life-line for many in Landywood and the surrounding area who are unable to get out on their own.
In January, the charity’s silver Peugeot minibus was stolen. The charity had taken three years to raise funding for the original minivan, which they had raised through raffles and garage sales. The theft of the minibus ‘devastated’ those at the charity, who have been without any transport since, and have been unable to organise day trips. The charity has started an online appeal, where prospective donors can give to funds for another vehicle by contacting the email address [email protected] and any contributions are welcome.
Sir Gavin is supporting the charity after the theft, by offering to work with the insurance company to ensure that the insurance claim on the stolen vehicle is honoured. He will also promote the charity’s appeal to raise funds.
Viven Evans said: “LDVHC was pleased to receive a visit from Sir Gavin Wiliamson MP, who has been a friend to us over the years since he was elected. He remains a supporter of our work and offered to help with the progress of our insurance claim, following the theft of our minibus in January.”
Sir Gavin said: “I was devastated to hear of the loss of the minivan at Landywood Voluntary Help Centre, a charity which I have been lucky to support for many years. I’m glad that I can assist their search for a new vehicle, and I will be supporting them with their insurance claim, to ensure that it is successful. I hope to see the charity up and running again with full force soon, as the organisation is a wonderful addition to the Landywood community.”
