Sir Gavin Williamson visited Brewood Park Farm to learn more about efforts to protect and enhance nature in Staffordshire.
Sir Gavin Williamson attended a Climate Commission event and met with members of the National Farmers’ Union, including Staffordshire County Advisor Jeremy Lowe, to learn more about what can be done to prevent climate change and to celebrate Staffordshire’s rich natural environment.
During the event, Sir Gavin took part in bird ringing, a practice which provides insights into a bird’s lifespan and daily movement patterns, and learned about how this practice in particular contributes to bird conservation efforts.
The Commission, which was set up in 2021, is following in the footsteps of other Climate Commissions across the UK which aim to bring together people from public, private, and civic sectors to work collaboratively to drive forward climate action and nature recovery. Commission Signatories include the NHS, Keele University, NFU, NatWest, and Staffordshire County Council.
Sir Gavin said: “It was heart-warming to see the diverse range of organisations coming together through the Climate Commission to work towards a greener Staffordshire. Such events play a pivotal role in driving forward climate action and nature restoration, which our beautiful county will reap the rewards from for years to come.
