Sir Gavin Williamson attended a coffee morning to help raise money for breast cancer charities and voice his support for patients and their families.
Sir Gavin attended a coffee morning at Haling Dene Centre in Penkridge to help raise funds for various charities fighting against breast cancer. The coffee mornings are organised by volunteers, including a number of local councillors.
According to the charity Breast Cancer Now, around 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK. The survival rate for breast cancer has doubled in the past 40 years to reach 85% due to a combination of improvements in treatment and care, earlier detection through screening and faster diagnosis.
Sir Gavin said: “It was brilliant to join residents at the Haling Dene Centre for a coffee morning to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. These events are so vital for providing a space for people to gather and socialise as well as raising funds for such worthwhile causes.
My thanks go to Cllr Helen Adams, Cllr Andy Adams, and Cllr Vic Kelly for all the work they do in Penkridge to organise these events.”
Helen Adams, Chair of Penkridge Parish Council said: “We were delighted to welcome Sir Gavin Williamson to the opening of the Community Café at the Haling Dene, Penkridge Parish Council on Thursday 17th August. Visitors to the café enjoyed chatting to Gavin and we appreciated his support on our opening day.”
