Sir Gavin Williamson has met with the Chief Executive of South Staffordshire District Council as well as the Corporate Director of Place and Communities to discuss the Crooked House.
Sir Gavin joined Marco Longhi, MP for Dudley North, for a meeting with representatives of South Staffordshire District Council to discuss the fire at the Crooked House. He took the opportunity to raise constituents’ concerns about the ongoing situation and voiced his support for the restoration of the site.
The Crooked House, built as a farmhouse in 1765 but converted into a pub in 1830, was destroyed by a fire on August 6th. The fire is currently being investigated as arson, and calls for its reconstruction are growing, with a Facebook group campaigning for its restoration attracting 13,000 people.
Sir Gavin said: “I am aware that there is ongoing speculation regarding the site of the Crooked House. I have made it my priority to arrange meetings with various stakeholders, including the district council and the police and fire services, in order to gain clarity on what is a quickly moving picture. I hope to ensure that no further improper action is taken on the site, and this is something I have highlighted to the authorities. I will do all I can to push for the restoration and reconstruction of the Crooked House, and to find answers for my constituents."
