Sir Gavin Williamson visited the School of Health, Science, and Wellbeing at Staffordshire University and learned more about how it seeks to help both students and local businesses thrive in a changing world.
Sir Gavin met with the Executive Dean Mark Phillips as well as the Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Jones and toured the state-of-the-art educational facilities. In particular, he learned about the University’s use of simulation to train medical students so that they are better prepared to provide care in real-life settings.
Staffordshire University is home to over 15,000 students and is based across five campuses. It is known for its efforts to help local businesses adapt to technological change, develop higher levels of skills in industry, and improve community health and wellbeing throughout Staffordshire.
Sir Gavin said: “It was fascinating to visit Staffordshire University and discuss how it aims to prepare both students and the local community for the future. As a former Secretary of State for Education, I was particularly interested in learning about how the University leverages cutting-edge technology to enhance students’ experience. I am sure that Staffordshire University will continue to provide a high-quality education to students from the local area as well as from further afield.”
Professor Martin Jones said: “It was a pleasure to show Sir Gavin around our Centre for Health Innovation in Stafford. The Centre combines first class facilities with research and educational excellence to support commercial partnerships, CPD and civic engagement. Staffordshire University is an institution with a strong civic mission, and we have committed to being a ‘catalyst for change’ for students and businesses, positively impacting wider society and the regional economy.”
