Sir Gavin recently met with members of the West Midlands Interchange team and toured their site to learn more about how they plan to work alongside local communities. In particular, they discussed the creation of two new community parks to serve those who live and work in the area.
The new parks, created as part of the West Midlands Interchange’s Development Consent Order, will be situated in Calf Heath and Croft Lane and will cover an area of 109 acres (44 hectares). The West Midlands Interchange team recently ran a consultation to learn about which amenities and landscaping visitors wished to see in the parks.
Sir Gavin said: “I am grateful that the West Midlands Interchange team took the time to meet with me. As you may be aware, I ran a campaign to oppose the plans due to my worries about how the development will impact businesses, residents, and the environment. Now that the scheme has been approved, I firmly believe it is important to remain engaged and put forward concerns that I and constituents have. I will continue to do so in the strongest possible terms.”
The West Midlands Interchange team said: “The West Midlands Interchange Team were pleased to welcome Sir Gavin to our site and explain in greater detail our ambitious scheme. We also appreciated talking to Sir Gavin about the engagement we have undertaken with the community, setting up a Community Liaison Group and working with them to address any concerns. We look forward to working with Sir Gavin as the scheme takes shape and welcoming him back to view our progress”.
