Sir Gavin Williamson visited Bilbrook’s William Hill shop to participate in the Betting and Gaming Council’s (BGC) annual charity bet.
Sir Gavin visited the William Hill betting shop in Bilbrook and met with Gary Follis, Executive Director for the BGC. Every year, the BGC invites MPs to place a complimentary £50 bet on the Grand National with any winnings going to the MP’s charity of their choosing. In the event that the horse loses, the BGC will still provide a £50 donation.
While Sir Gavin’s horse, Galvin, did not win, £250 will nonetheless be donated to Friends of Bilbrook, a non-profit community group whose aim is to improve the environment and open spaces around Bilbrook. Their projects include community litter picks, waterside care, and the creation of a forest to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Sir Gavin said: “I enjoyed visiting William Hill’s shop to take part in this great initiative and show my support for a local charity, whose cause is very close to my heart. While many of us enjoy betting every now and again, I would also like to reiterate my commitment to a healthy gambling industry, with the right tools in place to promote responsible gambling.”
