Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire has welcomed the award of £45,000 from the Veolia Environmental Trust’s Landfill Communities Fund to the Canal and River Trust
At their March Board Meeting, The Veolia Environmental Trust awarded £45,000 to the Canal and River Trust to help rejuvenate the Brewood towpath.
The current towpath becomes impassable and dangerous in wet weather. The £45,000 grant will fund a project to lay a new surface on two kilometres of canal towpath, creating a safe and accessible footpath for residents and visitors.
The Veolia Environmental Trust has been supporting community and environmental projects through the Landfill Communities Fund for over 20 years. Since they were established in 1997, Veolia has made contributions totalling over £93 million, enabling over 2,600 projects to be successfully completed. This recently included a grant of £75,000 to Bilbrook Parish Council to create a new accessible play space at Joeys Land Play Park.
Sir Gavin said: “We are so fortunate to have so many miles of amazing waterways running through South Staffordshire. This grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust will enable some vital repairs to a beloved stretch of towpath in Brewood and ensure that it can be enjoyed for years to come.”
