Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire is supporting World Book Day’s 25th anniversary on Thursday 3rd March 2022.
World Book Day has been changing children’s lives by encouraging a love of books and reading for 25 years. Reading for pleasure makes an enormous impact on a child’s future — whether that’s their educational success, well-being or mental health. World Book Day wants to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the life-long habit of reading for pleasure that will improve their life chances.
Each year, World Book Day creates bespoke £1 books for both early readers just starting their journeys and well-established readers to promote the power of imagination and the importance of reading. These books are produced in partnership with fantastic writers for children and young adults, including Michael Morpurgo, Matt Lucas, and Sophie McKenzie. Through World Book Day, every child in South Staffordshire will be given a £1 book token, which they can take to a bookshop or supermarket to get their free World Book Day book.
Gavin said: “It is a pleasure to support World Book Day once again, especially as it is celebrating its 25th year. It is so important that every child and young adult in South Staffordshire is encouraged to develop a love of reading, and the World Book Day campaign does such amazing work to cultivate this. May I wish many congratulations to all the schools in South Staffordshire who are participating in this wonderful day.”
