Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited the annual event to raise money to support the care of rescued hedgehogs.
The West Midlands Hedgehog Rescue was established by Cheslyn Hay Resident Joan Lockley who is passionate about caring for animals. Her fantastic work through the charity was recognised by the IFAW Animal Action Award in the House of Lords in 2015 and, since then, the charity has continued to go from strength to strength.
The annual open day seeks to raise funds for the care and rescue of animals as the charity relies completely on public donations. Joan has a team of volunteers who work hard to teach people about their work, as well as raising awareness of how people can help hedgehogs.
Commenting on the day, Gavin said: “I really enjoyed attending the West Midlands Rescue Open Day again on Saturday. This is an event I always look forward to as I am always so humbled by the work Joan Lockley and her team do to rescue, and care for, injured hedgehogs.
“It’s amazing to see that the charity is going from strength to strength and I hope that Joan’s enthusiasm and warmth helps inspire others who are passionate about caring for animals.”
