Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, celebrated all things Great Wyrley Carnival at their carnival last weekend.
This year’s Carnival saw thousands of people take part in the event in Great Wyrley. A procession of floats off from Hazel Lane and did a 3 mile tour of the village before returning to Star Field, where Gavin had his own ‘Meet your MP’ stall.
Gavin judged the Best Fancy Dress and the Best Float competitions with Parish Councillor Helen Snape. The winner of the Best Float, which was based on the theme of children’s books and films was based on Peter Pan. The Carnival raised £626.34 along the procession route which goes back into the carnival to fund the next year.
Visitors to the carnival were entertained by live music and a number of family themed stalls. Other attractions included a bouncy castle, paintballing, a chance to ride on quad bikes and a fun fair. Gavin also presented the award for best stall which was won by a Bill & Ben themed stand.
On the event, Gavin said: “I attend the carnival every year and it never fails to impress. A huge amount of effort was put into the stalls, the floats and the fancy dress, and the standard was fantastic.
“It was great to see so many people having such a brilliant time. Once again the Carnival Committee have worked incredibly hard and make Great Wyrley Carnival such a fantastic attraction every single year.”
