Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited staff and pupils at Brindley Heath Primary School in Kinver recently to honour retiring deputy headteacher Jan Jones.
Gavin visited the school to thank Mrs Jones for her years of service to the school. She has spent the past 36 years teaching in Staffordshire, 30 of which she spent on staff at Brindley Heath.
Pupils and teachers commemorated Mrs Jones’ teaching years during a 80s themed assembly, where they dressed up as icons from the era.
During the assembly Gavin joined headteacher Jason Willetts to present Mrs Jones which an engraved bell honouring her years of service to the school and highlighting her popularity amongst pupils and staff.
Headteacher Jason Willetts said: “She has been an amazing teacher here and will be greatly missed. There are very few teachers who give as much to the children as she does and the people of Kinver really appreciate what she has done over the years.”
Gavin praised Mrs Jones’ years of service commenting: “I very much enjoyed the 80s themed assembly at Brindley Heath to honour Mrs Jones’ years of service to the school. Mrs Jones has done fantastic job as deputy headmistress and as a teacher during her 30 years spent at the primary school. During this time she has touched so many lives and I know that she will be greatly missed by both pupils and members of staff.”
