Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has criticised Channel 5 for showing a programme which showed scenes which seemed to show the killing of a hedgehog.
Horrified viewers contacted Gavin after the programme 10,000 BC: 2 tribes showed the scenes during a recent episode of the show.
Gavin has called on the Chief Executive of Channel 5 to assure viewers that such scenes will not be repeated in future programming.
Gavin has recently supported Staffordshire Wildlife’s ‘Last hedgehog in Staffordshire’ campaign and has spoken in a debate which called for hedgehogs to become a symbol of the UK.
Commenting on the complaints received Gavin said: “Hedgehogs are progressively becoming a rare species in the UK and it is very disappointing that a mainstream television programme should be implying that it is OK to kill to such an increasingly endangered species.
“This is completely unacceptable television in my eyes and I hope that the Chief Executive of Channel 5 will send assurances to ensure this kind of television is not repeated.”
