Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, will be attending Codsall Christmas Fair and Carol Service on Friday 4th December.
This year, for the first time, in addition to the traditional “Carols around the Christmas Tree” event, Codsall will be getting its first ever Christmas Fair with trade stalls, live music, hot food and a host of other events.
Visitors will be treated to performances from the internationally acclaimed juggler Steve Kaos, local band Sunhoney and soloist Sam Draisey.
The carols see Codsall residents and groups come together for a night of singing, with free refreshments provided by a number of local businesses.
Three local primary schools, St. Nicholas Church School, St. Christopher R.C. Church School and Birches First School, will each be singing two songs during the course of the evening. In between the schools’ performances, the St. Nicholas Choir will be singing a series of carols. Attendees will be handed programmes with the words and will be encouraged to sing along.
Stalls will be open from 4pm, music from the Salvation Army Band at 6.30 and Carols around the Christmas Tree at 7pm as usual, followed by a visit from Father Christmas with gifts for all the children.
Both of Codsall’s village centre pubs will be participating in the evening with the Joules Brewery “beer bus” at The Crown and a bouncy castle and free hot chocolate at The Bull. The local fairground owner will set up a children’s roundabout in Church Road, together with a candy floss stall. All funds raised from the evening’s collection will go to the Tettenhall Rotary Club.
Chairman of the Codsall Christmas Fair Group, Lewis Stovin has said: “This is a new venture for us. The village has always had the “Carols around the Tree” event but this time, we want to welcome in the festive season with an event that is something for everyone to enjoy.
“The organising group is made up of members of our business community, shop staff, Parish and District Councillors and, most importantly, members of the public, all of whom have worked very hard to make this event happen.”
Commenting on the upcoming event Gavin said: “Joining Codsall residents for Carols around the Christmas Tree is one of my favourite annual events. I am delighted to hear that organisers have put so much effort in this year to make it such a huge community event. There is always an incredible turnout and such a wonderful festive atmosphere throughout the village.
“It is always great to see the Salvation Army and numerous other local organisations joining in with the celebrations. As we all sing together, it really feels like Christmas has begun. I am really looking forward to what I’m sure will be a wonderful event.”
