Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, hosted a campaign event on Saturday morning at Landywood Primary School, Great Wyrley against the proposals to build 136 houses on green belt land off Landywood Lane.
Residents from across Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley joined Gavin to organise and distribute petitions which will be hand delivered to 8,000 homes across the area. Gavin’s petition will be presented to the House of Commons and South Staffordshire District Council.
The proposals, which were rejected in 2013, would see 136 houses built on the area of green belt land situated off Landywood Lane.
Commenting on the event Gavin said: “I would like to thank all those people who gave up part of their morning to come and help out at our campaign event. We wouldn’t have been able to get out all 8,000 petitions without their help.
“An overwhelming number of people do not want this development. It will ruin the character of the villages of Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay. I hope that both the Council and the planning inspectorate, if the proposals reach that stage, will listen to voice of local people.”
