Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, took part in the countries of the world themed Great Wyrley Carnival this weekend.
This year’s Carnival saw 6,000 people take part in the event in Great Wyrley. A procession of nine floats and classic cars set off from Hazel Lane and did a 3 mile tour of the village before returning to Star Field, where Gavin had his own ‘Meet your MP’ stall.
Gavin judged the Best Fancy Dress and the Best Float competitions with Great Wyrley Councillor Kath Perry. The winner of the Best Float was Landywood Playgroup, with their Africa themed float.
Visitors to the carnival were entertained by the Eureka Vintage Jazz Band and the Cannock Chase, Drum Corps, which also took part in the parade. Other attractions included a bouncy castle, paintballing, a chance to ride on quad bikes and a fun fair.
On the event, Gavin said: “I attend the carnival every year and it never fails to impress. A huge amount of effort was put into the stalls, the floats and the fancy dress, and the standard was fantastic.
“It was incredible to see 6,000 people having such a great time. I had such a brilliant day and it was clear that those on the Carnival Committee had worked incredibly hard and make Great Wyrley Carnival a thriving attraction year after year.”
