Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Brindley Heath Junior School in Kinver on Friday afternoon.
Gavin requested to visit the school after 50 of the pupils wrote to him about local issues in Kinver as part of their ‘Yes Minister’ project before the General Election. Gavin wrote back and asked if he could come and view the project himself and take part in a question and answer session with the pupils. Gavin was asked questions about his role as an MP and what the best and worst things about his job were.
The school recently held an election, with each child having a vote, so they could learn about, and experience, what it was like to vote. The students represented their own parties and had their own Polling Day, complete with Polling Stations and ballot box.
Gavin said: “One of the first things that I did when I was re-elected as an MP was fulfil my promise to the pupils of Brindley Heath Junior School to visit them and answer all their questions for their ‘Yes Minister’ project. I was so impressed with the quality of questions from the pupils and this is an amazing reflection on a fantastic school with wonderful teachers. Some of the questions really got me thinking and a couple of pupils said that in the future they may wish to become MPs, so I might have some competition!”
