Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has recently conducted a survey among Wombourne residents to find out the number of residents that are in support of the restoration of The Bratch Pumping Station.
In a recent survey of 800 Wombourne residents, an overwhelming number of 91.74% were in favour of Gavin’s campaign to find a sustainable solution for the Bratch Pumping Station, whereby is can support itself and remain open to the public.
Gavin has been working with Severn Trent and English Heritage to enable the renovation of The Bratch Pumping Station, which has fallen into a state of disrepair following years of neglect. Built in 1895, the Grade 2 listed building is one of only 50 remaining pumping stations in England.
Since Gavin first began campaigning on the issue, Severn Trent has paid for immediate repairs to be made to the building and a working group has been set up, with support from the District Council and English Heritage, to discuss what can be done to support the site.
Gavin said: “The Bratch Pumping Station is a major local landmark a vital part of our industrial heritage. It is shameful that it has fallen into such a state of disrepair. It is an iconic local landmark and I feel strongly that this important historical building is preserved.
“From the overwhelming response from Wombourne residents and local partners, there is no doubt that they feel the same way to seek something that can be done to save it.”
