Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited St Nicholas’ First School in Codsall, last week, to re-open the office administration facilities after their recent refurbishment.
Gavin cut the ribbon to open the new entrance and office administration facilities, which has recently undertaken a major refurbishment. He celebrated the opening with pupils and the Headmistress with tea and cake. He was then given a tour of the school by Year 4 pupils, which included visiting the oak tree that Gavin planted for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
Gavin met with Year 3 pupils who gave a rendition of the poem, “We’re going on a bear hunt”, as part of their work on performance poetry.
As part of the tour, Gavin was shown around the new school kitchens. The school makes around 190 meals a day for pupils, a number which has doubled following the introduction government’s free school meals policy.
“It was a real delight to visit St Nicholas’ First School, where I was given a great tour by Year 4 pupils, who showed me around the school and explained the many activities that students can take part in. I was very impressed with the new office and also my tour around the school.
“I very much enjoyed meeting the pupils and staff. St Nicholas’ is a very well respected school in the local community and it was a pleasure to see how well the school is developing and the outstanding work that takes place each day towards making it a fantastic school."
