Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, took part in the Great Wyrley Carnival on Saturday 28th June.
Gavin judged the Best Fancy Dress, Best Stall and the Best Float competitions. The float parade kicked off on Hazel Lane at 12 noon and then proceeded through the village.
The main carnival, where Gavin had his own ‘Meet the MP’ stand, took place in the afternoon at Star Land in Great Wyrley.
Visitors to the carnival were entertained with displays by Moat Hall Gym Club and Dance Fusion, as well as marching bands and a talent show.
Further attractions included dog shows, charity stalls, Dobsons Fun Fair, Party-Stop Showtime, bouncy castles, a Cresta Run, Go Karts, bungee trampolines and refreshments.
Gavin also presented the Staffordshire Council of Volunteer Youth Services award. The award - which recognises the individual who has done the most to engage young people in the county - was given to David Slater, who runs the Cheslyn Hay Boys Brigade.
On the event, Gavin said: “I attend the carnival every year and it never fails to impress. A huge amount of effort was put into the stalls, the floats and the fancy dress, and the standard wasquite simply superb.
“Carnivals, such as these, are becoming increasingly rare and it is a brilliant testament to the hard work of those on the Carnival Committee that the Great Wyrley Carnival is not only continuing year after year, but thriving. I look forward to visiting the carnival for many years to come.”
