Gavin Williamson MP for South Staffordshire joined other Staffordshire MPs to show their support for the 3rd Battalion of the Mercian regiment (the Staffords) which is currently serving in Afghanistan. The House of Commons team including (from left to right) Andrew Griffiths MP (Burton & Uttoexeter), Gavin Williamson MP (South Staffordshire), Jeremy Lefroy MP (Stafford), Bill Cash MP (Stone), Karen Bradley MP (Staffordshire Moorlands), Chris Pincher MP (Tamworth) and Aiden Burley MP (Cannock) showed off "Staffords" mugs and T-shirts bearing the words: 'I support 3 Mercian' beneath Big Ben at Westminster this week.
The Staffords were merged with two other regiments, the Cheshire regiment and the Worcestershire & Sherwood Foresters regiment in 2007 to form the new Mercian regiment.
