Sir Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has celebrated English Tourism Week by visiting Oakland Holiday Park and discussing the contribution tourism makes to South Staffordshire.
English Tourism Week runs from 18th to the 27th of March to celebrate the contribution of the tourism industry to job creation, the environment, and local communities.
Sir Gavin visited Oakland Holiday Park to show his support for English Tourism Week and to hear more about the business. Located in Brewood on the banks of the Shropshire Union Canal, Oakland Holiday Park hosts 150 static caravans on site and welcomes holidaymakers to South Staffordshire for ten months a year.
The Park has also received a David Bellamy Conservation award in the past in recognition of the work they have done to protect and enhance Britain’s natural environment.
Sir Gavin said: “Tourism is such a vital part of our local economy here in South Staffordshire. It helps support jobs and livelihoods, but it also allows us to share all that our wonderful area and communities have to offer. My thanks to Oakland Holiday Park and all businesses that do such wonderful work to make South Staffordshire a fantastic tourism destination.”
Andrew Stokes, Director of VisitEngland, said: “English Tourism Week shines the spotlight on an industry which supports millions of jobs and local economies right across England, as well as encouraging people to discover and explore the outstanding tourism products, destinations and experiences right here on our doorstep.
“This year the week is also dedicated to supporting our industry as it rebuilds, showing that it is open and ready to welcome visitors back to the experiences they have missed during the pandemic.”
