Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, took part in the Bilbrook and Codsall Scouts Carnival over the weekend.
Gavin was asked to judge the hour long parade, featuring 14 different floats, which went ahead despite the dreadful weather.
The Fourth Codsall Guides won best float, with their Alive in Wonderland themed creation. The First Codsall Rainbows and Bilbrook Codsall Cubs came second and third respectively.
Other entertainment included the Ambassadors of Derby marching band, a display by the Piston Ring Motorcycle Club and numerous food and craft stalls.
Gavin had his own stall at the event, this year, where passers-by could come and discuss any issues that they might have.
On the event, Gavin said: “I very much enjoyed seeing the floats on Saturday. This was the third time that I have had the opportunity to judge the procession and, just like three years ago, the effort that all the participants put in was extremely impressive.
“An impressive 2000 visitors attended this year’s event and everyone seemed to have be having a wonderful time, despite the bad weather. The Scouts, which is run by numerous volunteers, does a huge amount to help local youngsters and I really hope that people contributed generously at the carnival to ensure that it can continue its good work.”
The Bilbrook & Codsall Scouts Carnival is the local Scout’s main annual fundraising event. The group is extremely popular amongst local youngsters and currently has a waiting list for membership.
The Carnival raises money both for the maintenance of the Scouts’ building and the members’ activities throughout the year.
