Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined Glenthorne Community Primary School in Cheslyn Hay, on Monday 23rd September, to present this year’s new Prefects with their awards.
Before making the presentations, Gavin spoke to the pupils about the important role that prefects play in schools and how fantastic it was to see an initiative like this being taken on by such an excellent school. The presentations were followed with a group photograph.
On the visit, Gavin said: “It was a real honour to be able to present these awards to this year’s Prefects. The position is a great responsibility which builds confidence and helps to develop your leadership skills. I can see that the newest recruits are naturals already.
“I’d also like to congratulate Mr Barker on his achievement in raising standards. The school is a great example of what can be achieved when teachers are given the freedom to do what they do best.”
Headteacher Simon Barker said: “I’d like to thank Gavin Williamson MP for joining us to award the new Prefects. It is vital that children are able to aspire to be the best that they can be and Monday was a celebration of this.”
Glenthorne Community Primary School currently has 166 pupils, which includes those who attend part-time in the Nursery. The school has improved greatly over the last few years and in 2012 SAT results were significantly above the national average and showed an increase on the previous year’s results.
