Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, got behind the local food counter, in Sainsbury’s, Wombourne, to learn about food preparation and serving local customers, on Thursday 28th August.
Gavin was welcomed by Martin Hayes and Vinni Fereday, who explained the importance of safety and hygiene while preparing food, as well as getting tips from train colleagues on how to make the perfect pizza.
The day was designed to highlight the various career opportunities and promote training available to colleagues. This year, Sainsbury’s was awarded its second consecutive Gold Investors in People accreditation for supporting, developing and motivating its employees.
Gavin said: “I have had a great day accompanying Martin Hayes and Vinni Fereday during my work shadowing in Sainsbury’s. It was wonderful to see how passionate colleagues are and enjoyed meeting local customers.
“I had a fantastic time working behind the hot food counters and learning more about Sainsbury’s development scheme, which is doing wonderful work educating employees and equipping them with skills that they can use in future employment.”
Vinni Fereday said: “It’s not every day you have your local MP in to work with you – I really enjoyed sharing some of the skills I’ve learnt and having an extra pair of hands.”
Following the work shadowing, Gavin held a supermarket surgery stall, meeting with local shoppers who discussed their local concerns with him.
