Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, welcomed the Great Wyrley History Society to Parliament, this week.
Over 50 members of the Society and wider Great Wyrley community travelled to London to learn about the Palace of Westminster and its history.
Gavin welcomed the large group before it went on its official tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Gavin said: “I greatly enjoyed meeting all the members of the Great Wyrley Local History Society and their friends in Westminster Hall.
“The Great Wyrley Local History Society is a wonderful organisation, which plays an invaluable role in chronicling our local history. I hope that the members had a wonderful visit and enjoyed learning a little bit more the history of Parliament.”
The Great Wyrley Local History Society was founded in 2009 by a small group of history enthusiasts.
Over the past five years, the organisation has gone from strength to strength, including publishing a book called ‘Great Wyrley Reflections.’
The 240 page book, which was created over a period of three years with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, describes the changing face of the community over the decades. It is available through a series of local shops and organisations.
