Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, welcomed the Methodist District Synod to Trinity Methodist Church, in Codsall, on Saturday 13th September.
Around 200 people were present where Gavin and Councillor Brian Edwards welcomed the Synod, which had come to Trinity Methodist Church for the first time. Gavin then gave a brief speech on the importance of faith in politics and the church’s influence in the local community.
The Synod meets a couple of times each year in various churches around the district. They set District policy, often taking matters that have been discussed to the over-arching annual Methodist Conference.
Gavin said: “I very much welcome the Synod to Codsall and have it was wonderful to see so many people across the regional area coming to South Staffordshire to attend the meetings and day of worship.
“It was a privilege for the Synod to choose Codsall for their meeting, as they tend to take place in other larger churches around the Methodist District.
“The Methodist Church plays an important role in village life in Codsall and South Staffordshire and also a vital role in Wolverhampton, where the church is supporting people that are most in need. It was great to be able to welcome the Synod and thank them for all the work they have done and will continue to do in the future.”
