Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed a new £50,000 project to refurbish Kinver High Street.
Two of the existing pinch-points will be removed as part of the series of planned improvements to the road.
Gavin has branded the revamp as a real victory for local campaigners and traders, who claimed that the existing layout – introduced in 2011 – had led to a significant fall in trade
Gavin said: “I think everyone is absolutely delighted - so many of us have been pushing for so long to get the revisions we think are needed to make sure traffic can properly use Kinver High Street.
“It’s a real victory for all of us who’ve wanted to get these improvements made.”
In addition to the removal of the pinch-points, the scheme will see changes to disabled parking, kerbs, drainage, traffic signs, road markings and extended waiting restrictions. Footways and carriageways will also be repaved and resurfaced, and the bus stop relocated.
The works are expected to take around six weeks to complete. Despite his overall approval of the project, Gavin has expressed disappointment that improvements need to be carried out just two years after £1m was invested into the high street layout.
He added: “I’d rather they act to fix it than not change anything. Keeping something that’s obviously not working properly would be the bigger tragedy.”
