Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Wombourne High School during the ‘Be Internet Citizens’ workshop.
During his visit, Gavin met with Google’s Rosie Luff and listened in to the ‘Us vs Them’ workshop, speaking to pupils about how to create a safer and more friendly online community.
The programme, launched in 2017, is a joint project by Google and YouTube to help 13-15-year-olds be responsible online, how to spot fake news and how to respond effectively to ‘hate speech’.
At the end of his visit, Gavin said: “I was delighted to visit Wombourne High School today to see Google and YouTube’s Be Internet Citizens Programme in action. It is extremely important that we educate young people on how to have a positive voice and stay safe online. It is great to see a programme like this in South Staffordshire”.
