Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, today paid a visit to Great Wyrley Community Centre which is being used as a vital Covid vaccination hub.
The centre which opened three up nearly three weeks ago has been completing around 450 vaccinations per day. Gavin was joined by County Councillor for Cheslyn Hay, Essington and Great Wyrley, Kath Perry MBE as they observed and chatted with residents who had received their first jab.
The hub is set up by Cornwell's Chemists and has been open two days a week, with the hope of opening the centre more frequently. Gavin saw how the centre operates with three pharmacy professionals administering the vaccinations behind secure and private stations.
Gavin praised the success of the centre who operate a one way system to limit interaction between people as well as averaging a seven minute round trip from entry to exit for residents.
Speaking of the visit, Gavin said: “It was great to see the vaccination process here in Great Wyrley and I’m glad to see that South Staffordshire is playing its part in keeping people safe. I want to pay tribute about the great work that is being done and I will be happy to keep raising the great work and how this can be extended with local leaders and ministers.”
Pharmacy Superintendent and Director at Cornwells, Hussain Mohajer said: “We are absolutely delighted as a Pharmacy group to be involved with the vaccination process and protecting our local community. We want more vaccines to get people back to normal as quickly as possible and we want to thank the community spirit to help us achieve this.”
