Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited pupils at St Benedict Biscop CE Primary School in Wombourne last week.
After taking part in a tour around the school with the Head Boy and Head Girl, Gavin met pupils from Year 2 who were looking at their links to St Benedict’s Church and Year 1 who were learning about Remembrance Day and how it is commemorated each year. Gavin then met with nursery pupils who spoke about their vegetable plots that they have in the school yard where they are growing a variety of different fruits and vegetables.
The school has recently had several refurbishments including a new teaching area that will be used by years 3 to 6 and also new dining tables for children to eat from during lunch times.
Commenting on his visit Gavin said: “I had such an interesting time when I visited St Benedict pupils last week. I especially enjoyed learning more about how to grow fruit and vegetables from nursery students who were extremely enthusiastic about their plots in the yard.
“I was extremely impressed with the new teaching area and I am sure that students in years 3 to 6 will benefit hugely from this new refurbishment. I am looking forward to returning to the school and seeing how the fruit and veg plots have progressed over the year.”
