Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined Glenthorne Community Primary School in Cheslyn Hay last week to present this year’s new Head Boy and Head Girl with their awards following the recent school elections.
Gavin met with year 6’s new Head Boy Riley Smith and Head Girl Natasha Harris who were recently won their school elections to take up their new positions. As part of their campaigns, Natasha produced a poem explaining why she was the best choice for Head Girl. Similarly, Riley successfully rapped his way to victory persuading students to vote for him.
In addition to the presentations, Gavin spoke to the Deputy Head Teacher, Nicola Turner, about the progress the school has made in recent years including the discussion of this year’s excellent SATs results.
On the visit, Gavin said: “It was a real honour to be able to present these awards to Natasha and Riley as this year’s Head Boy and Head Girl. The positions are a great responsibility which builds confidence and having heard about their election campaigns, I am sure that they will thrive in their new roles.
“It was brilliant to hear about the fantastic that Glenthorne has made in their recent inspection and SATs results. I always really enjoy coming to visit pupils and teachers and I am sure that the next time I visit I will hear about many more successes in the future.”
