Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Corbett Primary School in Bobbington on Friday afternoon.
Gavin began his visit speaking to years 1 and 2 about the recent election which they had done a project about. Pupils held their own mock election on Polling Day and were keen to know more about Gavin’s experience. Students then asked questions which included wanting to know famous people Gavin had met during his time as an MP. He also talked about his recent visit to Buckingham Palace when he was made a Privy Counsellor.
Following this Gavin then spoke to pupils in years 5 and 6 about his job as the PPS to the Prime Minister. Students again questioned Gavin on local issues such as speeding, police numbers in the community, tax dodging by large corporations and getting more girls involved in engineering. He then joined pupils for fish and chips in the canteen and was presented with a card that pupils had made.
Commenting on his visit Gavin said: “I had a great time at Corbett Primary School. The pupils came out with some extremely good questions and I would not be surprised if I saw them on Newsnight in the near future. I’d like to thank the students and teachers from the school for their wonderful hospitality and I look forward to returning for a grilling in the future.”
