Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, took students from Codsall Middle School on a tour of Parliament today.
Gavin showed the group around Westminster Hall, Central Lobby, the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Following the tour, Gavin spoke to the students about the role of an MP, after which they were given the opportunity to ask questions about his work in Parliament.
The Codsall Middle School pupils queried Gavin over topics ranging from the symbolism of the unicorn and lion statues on the Estate to the greatest challenges of being an MP.
On departure, all of the students received certificates from Gavin to commemorate their day in Parliament.
Discussing the visit, Gavin said: “It was an enormous pleasure to be able to meet the students, staff and headmaster of Codsall Middle School. The pupils were really engaged and interested in work that goes on in Parliament and they certainly challenged me with their questions following the tour.
“I have no doubt that I will be hearing more about many these students in the future, as they go on to pursue their own careers. It was a trip to Parliament, when I was young, that inspired me to become an MP and I greatly hope that the trip may have had a similar impact on a few of the students that visited.”
