Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, will take part in the South Staffordshire Walking Festival, on a walk through Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay, on Saturday 6th September.
This year, the Walking Festival commemorates the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
The festival began in April and will end on September 9th. The programme of walks was designed to take walkers across the local area, visiting war memorials and hearing about the effect that the conflict had on neighbouring villages.
The walk around Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay will be accompanied by the local history society, who will be on hand with talks and displays about the memorials located in the local parks and churches.
Gavin said: “I am very much looking forward to taking part in the Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay walk this weekend. The walks are a fantastic way for people to get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful South Staffordshire countryside.
“The wartime history behind these walks is fascinating and I think that the South Staffordshire Walking Festival is a wonderful way of remembering those who fought for us from our local area.”
The walk around Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay begins at 1.30pm, on Saturday, at Wesley Methodist Church, and will last approximately 2 hours.
