Sir Gavin Williamson met with local councillor Dan Kinsey and Severn Trent Project Development Officer Laura Ward to discuss plans going forward on the restoration of Staffordshire’s historic Bratch pumping station, and to think about how it can be used by the local community.
The Pumping Station, a Grade II listed building, was abandoned in the early 2000s but has been taken up in recent years by Severn Trent’s capital programme, which undertook the renovation of the building, now fit for use by locals of Wombourne. Sir Gavin took part in discussions on the intended use of the building, one suggestion being to convert the building into a visitor attraction which would be managed by a Museum Trust.
Sir Gavin said: “The Bratch Pumping Station is a fantastic building, and we are very keen to find a new purpose for it in the local community. It was great to meet with Severn Trent, take a look around the site and discuss the next steps in bringing the building back to life. I’m excited about the ways in which the building could be used as a prop to the vitality of community life in Wombourne.”
