Sir Gavin Williamson attended a Parliamentary drop-in hosted by The Migraine Trust to show his support for those who suffer with the condition.
The event brought together MP’s from different political parties to speak with the Trust and understand how they can raise awareness of migraines and the impact they have on sufferers.
The Migraine Trust has been working since 1965 to increase awareness and understanding of migraine. One in seven people in the UK suffer from the condition which can have a debilitating impact on their lives. Statistics show that 43 million days of work and education are lost due to migraine, whilst 60% of people living with migraine feel it had a significant impact on relationships, whilst 71% of sufferers feel it has had an impact on their mental health.
Common symptoms of a migraine include: head pain, problems with sight such as seeing flashing lights, being sensitive to sound, light, and smell, fatigue, and nausea.
Sir Gavin said: “I was pleased to attend the Parliamentary drop-in hosted by The Migraine Trust to raise awareness and support those suffering with migraines.
“Migraines are not just a ‘headache’ that people can function with, and it is frustrating that some sections of society do not understand how debilitating this condition is.
“Research clearly shows that migraines impact every aspect of a person’s life from work through to relationships, and I am committed to doing everything I can to improve the lives of those who suffer."
