Sir Gavin Williamson visited Homes Plus’s development in Kinver, The Burgesses, and learned more about how the group plans to provide high quality and affordable accommodation for elderly people.
Sir Gavin visited the site and met with Debbie Brownlie, the Operational Manager for Retirement Living, as well as Les Clarke, the Executive Director of Housing and Care at Homes Plus. They spoke about the group’s ambitious plans to create new, purpose-built retirement accommodation on the site that would replace outdated bungalows and cramped bedsits.
The Burgesses currently provides housing to people over the age of 55 who wish to live independently. The property is well equipped with a range of communal facilities, including a rooftop terrace, electric vehicle charging points, and secure parking. Moreover, it has photovoltaic panels, which aim to improve the building’s energy efficiency.
Sir Gavin said: “It was great to visit The Burgesses and learn more about the fantastic accommodation that will soon be on offer to elderly people. It is incredibly important that we provide older generations with the high-quality housing and facilities that they deserve. I am certain that The Burgesses is a wonderful place to live, whether young or old.”
Les Clarke said: “It was great to be able to show Sir Gavin our amazing housing for older people in Kinver. The Burgesses is a model for apartment living that transcends the generations and is an asset to the people in this popular South Staffordshire village.”
