Sir Gavin Williamson has called on developers to progress with plans to build a car park at Landywood train station.
Sir Gavin has welcomed plans to see a new 40-space car park at Landywood station, which serves the villages of Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley. However, he has expressed his concern that the proposals have been moving forward too slowly and has called on developers to prioritise the building work.
The plans for the new car park were an addition to the developer’s original proposals to build 50 new homes, a project which has almost been completed. The car park was included in the proposals in order to expand the facilities of the station and to cater to this increased demand.
Sir Gavin has long been campaigning to improve the facilities and services at Landywood, having been successful earlier this year in securing more frequent train departures from the station after meeting with the former Secretary of State for Transport.
Sir Gavin said: ‘Landywood is a critical station for residents from both Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley, and it is essential that it has adequate parking facilities. Following the building of 50 new homes in the area, we expected that this would be accompanied by a vital new car park to accommodate this expansion. Progress on the car park has been slow to start and I’ll be pushing developers to ensure that plans move ahead as soon as possible.’
