Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Landywood Voluntary Centre on Friday to present a £150 cheque on behalf of the Machinery Users’ Association.
This cheque was presented to help fund the Centre’s weekly events for members of the community to interact and socialise. They host numerous events throughout the week including coffee mornings, bingo and musical themed events.
On Wednesdays, the centre holds “Rainbow Club”, which is an activity night for members of the community who have a disability. If the participants are unable to travel to the centre, volunteer drivers transport residents using specially adapted vehicles.
The Centre is currently on the lookout for more drivers and have asked any potential volunteers to contact 01922 418381 if they are able to lend a hand.
Speaking about his visit, Gavin commented: “It was a pleasure to be invited to Landywood Voluntary Centre. It was great to see members of South Staffordshire socialising and interacting through the fantastic variety of events that the Centre has on offer. I would like to commend the organisation for their hard work in catering for the community, especially for those who may feel less able to get out and about due to health reasons.
“It is so important that we do everything we can to support wonderful Centres such as this. I would encourage anyone who can spare some time to explore the opportunity of volunteering as a driver and help out with this great cause.”
