Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited St Mary and St Chad’s Primary School in Brewood to meet with pupils and staff and present new School Councillors with their badges.
Gavin presented pupils with badges commending children for their positions on the school council. Pupils had been voted onto the Council by their peers and will serve on it for the next year.
During the school’s Merit Assembly Gavin also congratulated pupils from the 2014/15 School Council who had won a Highly Commended Award from the Parliament Speaker’s School Council Award for their project to design a play area for the School. The award commends student initiated projects that aim to make a difference to schools and students right across the country. Students worked together to plan and develop the playground by gathering information from their class mates and making decisions as to what the final design would look like.
Commenting on his visit Gavin said: “I was extremely impressed with the achievements of School Councillors past and present when I visited St Mary and St Chad’s Primary recently. The work of the previous students on the Council is an excellent achievement and a credit to the school. Their teamwork and dedication that went into the project that was award a Highly Commended Award is truly impressive and I was proud to be able to congratulate them in person.
“I am sure that the next group of School Councillors will work just as hard and I am looking forward to hearing about their success in the future.”
