Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined members of Enville Cricket Club on Friday evening to take part in their youth coaching session.
The club, which was founded in 1821, currently has 120 young members who take part in the outdoor junior practice. The coaching sessions begin at 6.30 to 8.00pm each Friday evening and the club is encouraging more boys and girls from the under 9 to under 16 age groups to come and play.
Gavin spoke to members in order to gain a greater insight into what services the club provides to Enville as a whole and heard first-hand the challenges they currently face in providing a safe sport environment for the younger members of the community.
After his coaching session Gavin said: “Enville Cricket Club is a significant community asset. The standard of cricket played at the club is exceptional and I was delighted to meet and speak to the younger members of the club to hear about their summer coaching sessions. This is a brilliant initiative encouraging young people to get involved in a fantastic team sport, supported by wonderful coaching staff. I would encourage as many young people to get involved as possible and get outside and onto the cricket pitch this summer.”
