Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended an annual event of student achievements at Ounsdale High School in Wombourne last week
Gavin presented trophies and awards to students at the event and also gave a short speech about the importance of teachers in our society and the valuable contribution that each pupil makes to their community, regardless of grades or career.
Ounsdale High School has a long tradition of academic excellence and this year was no exception. This year 98% of students gained 5 or more GCSEs and 99% of pupils passed their A Levels. In addition to this, all students who sought a place at further or higher education this summer were successful.
The school’s top performer this year was Bradney Smith who gained ‘A*’ grades in Maths and Further Maths and ‘A’ grades in Chemistry and Physics and now studies Mechanical Engineering at The University of Birmingham.
After the ceremony Gavin commented: “It was wonderful to be able to join in the celebration and the success of so many pupils. Ounsdale High School is an outstanding school, which draws its pupils not just from Wombourne but the entire surrounding area. This is because of its long record of success and excellence both in the academic field and in the community. I wish all pupils the very best in the next stage of their lives and I have no doubt that we will be hearing more from them in the near future.”
