Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined staff at Oakland Holiday Park, Brewood to celebrate their Holiday Park of the Year Award at the Stafford Tourism Awards.
The Holiday Park has been in the Breakspeare family for three generations. Since acquiring the park over 30 years ago, the team at Oakland have worked hard to create first-class surroundings which contributed to their gold standard recognition.
The Park has a fully equipped leisure club, offering holidaymakers rest and relaxation by the Shropshire Union Canal in the heart of South Staffordshire.
Facilities at the Park include fitness suite and a luxury indoor pool and sauna which is designed to make the incursion on the environment as little as possible with solar powered heating for the pool water and large sky lights meaning the use of artificial lighting is greatly reduced.
In addition to their energy saving methods, the family have made the area wildlife friendly, installing many bird, bat and owl boxes throughout the extensive grounds. These and other conservation measures have led to the Park being awarded the Staffordshire Environmental Quality Mark (SEQM) following a sustainability audit earlier in the year.
Adam Breakspeare commented: “We are continually striving to improve the park, we spend a lot of time and put great emphasis on making the park a more relaxing and enjoyable environment for our customers. It feels great to be recognised for the hard work that we do and it motivates us to get better still.”
After congratulating the team Gavin commented: “I was delighted to hear that Oakland Holiday Park had won a much deserved Gold Tourism Award. The Park is set in beautiful surroundings and it is clear to see the hard work that Adam and his family have put in to make it a top class tourist destination. It is brilliant that we have family run businesses like these in South Staffordshire, encouraging families to come and explore our beautiful area.”
